A friend recently reminded me of some helpful advice I gave her years ago when she was preparing to interview for a new role: highlight what you can do for them, not what you have done for others.

When you bring up an accomplishment, don’t just highlight it as a past success. Instead, reframe your stories in a way that relates to the responsibilities you would be taking on in the new role. Note how you would bring your experience and expertise to the new company to address a specific need or solve a specific problem.

This may seem like a subtle distinction, but by relating it more directly to the hiring organization versus just telling them about an anecdote from a past employer, it shows your commitment to them and helps them see you in the role.

As a strategic career advisor, I help senior executives land their first or next C-suite position. That includes helping you reframe your stories for the role you have your sights on.

My mission is to help ensure you’re prepared for interview success—whether it takes place around a traditional boardroom table or via videoconference. Through The Montague Method, I’ll share my Secrets from a Search Consultant to help you land your first or next C-suite or board of directors position.
